NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at San Jose

(Saturday, February 4th)

Final Score: Anaheim 2, San Jose 0

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Jean-Sebastien Giguere turned aside 35 shots to record his second shutout of the season, as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim defeated the San Jose Sharks, 2-0, at HP Pavilion.

Todd Fedoruk, known more for his toughness then his scoring, netted the game- winning goal for Anaheim, which won for the fourth time in its last five games. It was just his third goal of the season.

Giguere, meanwhile, turned aside 10 shots in the third frame and kept the Sharks at bay during eight power plays to collect his 21st career shutout.

San Jose goaltender Evgeni Nabokov could hardly be blamed for the loss as he stopped 22 of the 23 shots he saw in the defeat, the Sharks second in a row and fifth in their last six contests.

"We have to stick with the plan," said Nabokov. "Right now the game is over, and we have to forgot about it and get ready for our other game, regardless if we win or loose. We have to play, and one of these days they will go in."

Anaheim netted the first goal of the game at the 12:21 mark of the second. Andy McDonald sent a pass to Jason Marshall at the right point and Marshall ripped a one timer wide of the net. Fedoruk then grabbed the rebound to the right of the goal and made a heads up play by flipping the puck off of Nabokov's skate from behind the net and into the goal.

"The shot from the point was wide. I raced to the back and saw a spot and Nabokov was not quite in the net yet," Fedoruk said. "I threw it off him. I got a lucky bounce and it went in."

Both offenses stalled from there, but the Sharks saw one more great opportunity to score before the end of the contest.

With 3:03 remaining in the contest, Anaheim's Samuel Pahlsson was called for hooking, giving the Sharks a power play that later turned into a 6-on-4 advantage after Nabokov went to the bench in favor of an extra attacker.

However, San Jose could not convert the opportunity and Teemu Selanne added an empty-net goal with 33 seconds remaining to ice the game.
