NHL Game Summary - Dallas at St. Louis
(Saturday, February 4th)
Final Score: St. Louis 4, Dallas 3 (OT)
St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Barret Jackman lit the lamp 2:16 into overtime to lift St. Louis over the Dallas Stars, 4-3, at the Savvis Center.
Vladimir Orszagh had a goal and an assist and Mike Glumac recorded his first NHL goal for the Blues, who have won three of their last four games.
Netminder Curtis Sanford turned away 25 shots, including several key saves late in regulation and in overtime to keep St. Louis in the game.
Jere Lehtinen, Jason Arnott and Jon Klemm all scored for Dallas, which had a six-game winning streak snapped. Marty Turco made 23 saves in net.
Dallas evened the game at 3-3 less than five minutes into the third period, as Lehtinen polished off a backhand pass from Jussi Jokinen in the left slot.
Arnott then nearly won the game for Dallas in the closing seconds with a point-blank shot from the high slot, but Sanford was able to deflect it out of harm's way. He was tested several times in the early stages of overtime as well, and met the challenge.
Sanford's stingy play allowed Jackman to record the game-winner. The tally was set up by Keith Tkachuk, who moved into the right circle, stopped on a dime to allow his defender to fly by, then dished the puck cross ice. Jackman got the disc in the left circle and fired a shot that hit off a defender's stick in front before sliding past Turco.
Dean McAmmond put the Blues on top 1-0 with 2:07 remaining in the first, flicking a sharp wrister from the bottom of the right circle that sailed past Turco.
Dallas responded with goals by Klemm and Arnott in the first five minutes of the second frame to capture a 2-1 advantage.
Orszagh cashed in on a power-play opportunity with 4:21 left in the second, however, and Glumac lit the lamp on a rebound putback just 32 seconds later to put St. Louis back on top.
The Stars had won the last five meetings and eight of the last 10 against St. Louis heading into Saturday's contest...Dallas would have tied the franchise record for consecutive victories with a win...The Blues will begin a six-game road trip Wednesday in Vancouver.
