(Thursday, February 2nd)
Final Score: Nashville 4, Colorado 3 (OT)
Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Steve Sullivan's goal 2:09 into the overtime session lifted the Nashville Predators over the Colorado Avalanche, 4-3, at Gaylord Entertainment Center.
Mike Sillinger netted his first goal as a Predator to help Nashville snap a three-game losing streak. Nashville acquired the veteran center from St. Louis earlier in the week in exchange for forward Timofei Shishkanov.
Yanic Perreault's late goal forced overtime and Scott Walker also scored for Nashville. Tomas Vokoun was peppered with 46 shots, but turned aside 43 of them for the victory.
"It's been an emotional roller coaster," said Nashville forward Scott Hartnell. "Vokoun was unbelievable."
Joe Sakic, Cody McCormick and Brett Clark all lit the lamp for Colorado, which has lost three of its last four games. David Aebischer made 27 saves in the loss.
After a steal in his own zone, Sullivan turned on the jets and skated in on Aebischer on a breakaway. Sullivan then lifted a shot over the goaltender's glove for his 26th goal of the season which gave the Preds the win.
"(Sullivan's) pretty good on breakaways and he scored," Aebischer said.
Colorado twice had leads in the third frame, but could not hold on for the victory.
The Avalanche took a one-goal edge 3:22 into the period on McCormick's second goal of the season. Vokoun made a pair of saves to keep the puck out of the net, but McCormick pounded home the second rebound attempt to put Colorado in front 2-1.
Nashville tied the contest midway through the third. Martin Erat held the puck in the right circle before whipping a pass inside the left circle to Sillinger, who converted a shot for his 23rd goal of the year at the 9:18 mark.
However, Colorado regained the lead less than two minutes later. After Vokoun stopped a flurry of shots, the puck sat behind him in the crease. Sakic then skated into the crease behind the netminder before sweeping the disc into the net at 11:11 of the frame for his 20th tally of the season.
The Predators had a power play late in the stanza and converted the equalizer with 2:39 remaining in regulation. Perreault's 20th goal of the season tied the contest after he redirected a pass from Paul Kariya in the slot past Aebischer.
Clark's sixth goal of the season staked Colorado to an early 1-0 lead after a rebound skipped right out to the left circle, where Clark slapped the loose puck home 4:38 into the first period.
Nashville tied the contest at 1-1 when Walker connected with a shot from the right slot just 1:44 into the second.
Colorado suffered a pair of injuries in the game, as defenseman Ossi Vaananen suffered a broken ankle early in the first period and forward Milan Hejduk took an elbow to the jaw. Neither player returned to the game and Hejduk will be re-evaluated Friday...Sullivan also had an assist... Antti Laaksonen ended with a pair of assists for the Avalanche...Colorado finished 0-for-8 on the power play while Nashville converted one of its five extra-man opportunities...Kariya has four assists in his last three games.
