NHL Game Summary - Detroit at Columbus

(Saturday, October 22nd)

Final Score: Detroit 6, Columbus 0

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Jason Williams recorded his first-ever hat trick and Manny Legace stopped all 17 shots he faced, as Detroit beat Columbus, 6-0, at Nationwide Arena.

Legace picked up his second shutout of the year and eighth of his career for the Red Wings, who have won five straight games.

Johan Franzen, Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk also scored in the win.

Marc Denis stopped just 13-of-17 shots before being pulled after one period for the Blue Jackets, who have lost four of their last five games. Martin Prusek filled in for the final two periods and made 17 saves in the loss.

Detroit took a 1-0 lead 5:06 into the first period as Robert Lang won an offensive-zone faceoff and Williams quickly wristed a shot from the left circle for the goal.

Then just 27 seconds later, Franzen picked off a careless pass and beat Denis with a wrist shot from the slot.

The Red Wings would tack on two more goals in the period, both from Williams, to go into the intermission with a commanding 4-0 lead. Williams' second score of the night, a power-play tally, came 10:08 into the frame, and then, 5:46 later, he took a feed from Brendan Shanahan and deposited it behind Denis.

Zetterberg's fourth goal of the season, 7:11 into the third period, made it 5-0, and Datsyuk's goal with 5:51 remaining capped the scoring.

Game Notes

Datsyuk, who has five goals this year, added two assists...Detroit was 1-for-5 on the power play while the Blue Jackets did not convert on any of their seven chances with the extra skater...The Red Wings are 8-1-0 this season...These teams will also play Monday night in Columbus.
