NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Vancouver
(Sunday, October 16th)
Final Score: Vancouver 5, Dallas 2
Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Lee Goren snapped a tie game with a goal 3:47 into the third period, as Vancouver defeated Dallas, 5-2, at General Motors Place.
Daniel Sedin, Sami Salo, Todd Bertuzzi and Richard Park also scored for the Canucks, who have won two straight games. Ed Jovanovski contributed three assists while Alexander Auld stopped 18 shots in the win.
Jere Lehtinen had both goals for the Stars, who had a three-game winning streak halted. Marty Turco made 30 saves in the loss.
With the game tied at 2-2, Goren's first goal as a member of Vancouver put the Canucks ahead for good. Jarkko Ruutu took a shot from the left blue line and Goren deflected the shot with a backhand that slipped through Turco's pads.
"We just want to get a bit of momentum here at home," Goren said. "It's a big win for us. It's always hard coming back for the first game after a road trip."
Bertuzzi's second goal in as many games, this one 14:31 into the third period, made it 4-2. Park then added a late tally on a feed from Jovanovski with just 2:20 to play.
Sedin and Salo both scored first-period power-play goals to put Vancouver ahead, but the lead was short-lived. Dallas tied the game up as it tallied twice in the second period.
Lehtinen's first of the night made it 2-1 only five minutes into the stanza, and then 3:35 later, Lehtinen lit the lamp again for the equalizer. He has four goals on the season.
"They had more chances there and they got a couple quick goals on the power play," Lehtinen said. "But in the second period we came back and we had a chance to go all the way and win the game. But in the third period, we didn't play as hard as we should have done, and that's how we lost the game."
Vancouver was 3-for-10 on the power play, while the Stars failed to convert in four chances with the extra skater.
