NHL Game Summary - Boston at Florida
(Thursday, October 13th)
Final Score: Boston 5, Florida 2
Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Glen Murray had a goal and assisted on two others, leading the Boston Bruins to a 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers at the BankAtlantic Center.
Patrice Bergeron, P.J. Axelsson and Tom Fitzgerald each had a goal and an assist, while Brad Isbister also scored for Boston in the win. Andrew Raycroft made 33 saves for the Bruins, who have won three straight.
Nathan Horton and Juraj Kolnik both lit the lamp for the Panthers, losers of two of their last three games. Roberto Luongo was pulled in the second period after allowing three goals on 15 shots. Jamie McLennan made nine stops on 10 shots in relief.
The Bruins scored first for the initial time this season on Murray's power- play goal 4:53 into the opening period. Murray was down low and grabbed an airborne puck before sweeping it through Luongo's legs.
"The first two goals were kind of funky goals, but what are you going to do," Luongo said. "I'd like to have the first goal back."
Fitzgerald's goal pushed Boston's lead to 2-0 with 4:09 remaining in the first. Travis Green ripped a one-timer off of Luongo's pads and Fitzgerald skated through the goal mouth and backhanded the rebound into the net.
Boston made it a 3-0 contest early in the second period on Bergeron's goal with the extra skater. Bergeron collected a loose puck behind the Florida net and needed two shots to stuff it past Luongo, who was then pulled in favor of McLennan.
Florida then notched a pair of goals in less than two minutes to trim the deficit to 3-2. Horton got the Panthers on the board at 12:45 of the second, while Kolnik's snap shot beat a diving Raycroft at 14:19.
Isbister restored Boston's two-goal edge at 4-2 with a marker midway through the third period. Brian Leetch uncorked a slap shot that was turned away, but Isbister was in the left circle to wrist home the rebound.
Axelsson's empty-net goal with less than a minute to go completed the scoring.
