NHL Game Summary - Boston at Tampa Bay

(Monday, October 10th)

Final Score: Boston 4, Tampa Bay 2

Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - P.J. Axelsson and Brad Isbister both had a goal and an assist to lead the Boston Bruins past the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-2, at St. Pete Times Forum.

Brian Leetch and Travis Green also scored, while Andrew Raycroft turned aside 26 shots for the Bruins, who have won two straight. The Bruins also halted a four-game losing streak at Tampa Bay.

Fredrik Modin and Dan Boyle each had a goal for the defending-champion Lightning, losers of two of their last three games.

John Grahame allowed four goals on 20 shots before being replaced in the third period by Sean Burke, who managed four saves in his short tour of duty.

After Tampa Bay opened the scoring on Modin's goal with 25.4 seconds left in the first period, the Bruins notched four unanswered goals for the win.

Boston made it 1-1 on Leetch's power-play goal -- his first in a Bruins uniform -- at 9:07 of the second period. Brad Boyes fed Leetch in the slot and the veteran whacked the puck past Grahame stick side. The puck apparently glanced off a defender's stick and past the goaltender.

Axelsson then gave the Bruins a 2-1 edge with 2:49 remaining in the second period. He took advantage of a screened Grahame and snapped a shot into the net from in close.

"This was our best game so far this year," Axelsson said. "We were flying out there. It just seems like we're getting better as every game goes on."

Green pushed Boston's lead to 3-1 early in the third period. Axelsson skated from behind the net and slipped the puck to an open Green, whose one-timer from the right circle sailed past Grahame's glove.

The Bruins made it a three-goal cushion midway through the third on Isbister's tally. The score ended Grahame's day in favor of Burke.

Boyle's goal with 5:32 left in the third period completed the scoring.
