Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Marek Svatos' power-play goal with 1:57 left in the game lifted the Colorado Avalanche over the Dallas Stars, 3-2, at American Airlines Center.
Pierre Turgeon and Joe Sakic also netted goals for Colorado, which improved to 1-1-0 after its first win of the year. Peter Budaj made 16 saves in his first career start.
Brenden Morrow and Jere Lehtinen scored for Dallas, which fell to 1-1-0. Marty Turco stopped 28 shots in the loss as the Stars failed to score with the man advantage on five tries.
Svatos' game-winning goal came on a rebound that beat Turco stick side after the Dallas netminder stopped a shot from Steve Konowalchuk. Konowalchuk and Turgeon picked up assists on the goal.
Down 1-0, the Avalanche scored two straight goals in the second period.
Turgeon registered the first goal, firing a wrister from the right that beat Turco glove side.
Colorado finished 2-for-10 on the power play.
Sakic's goal came with just 27 seconds left in the second period after he fired a one-timer from the right circle that found room on Turco's blocker side.
Dallas tied it at the 11:43 mark in the third period on Morrow's rebound shot from the right side.
Lehtinen scored the first goal of the game short-handed just 52 seconds into the second period.
Colorado was penalized eight times while Dallas committed 12 penalties...Colorado outshot Dallas 31-18...Jason Arnott recorded his fourth assist of the year.
