Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Shayne Corson scored twice and Marty Turco made 24 saves in his return from a suspension to lead Dallas to a 5-2 win over Chicago at American Airlines Center in the regular season finale for both teams.
Bill Guerin finished with a goal and two assists for the Stars (41-26-13-2), who snapped a four-game losing streak (0-2-0-2) and clinched the fifth spot in the Western Conference playoffs. Jere Lehtinen added a goal and an assist. Turco missed the last four games after a slashing incident.
"We haven't had any rhythm in our lineup the last couple of weeks," Dallas head coach Dave Tippett said. "Today's game was crucial in that aspect, to get us ready for [the playoffs]."
Ryan VandenBussche scored twice for the Blackhawks, who ended the season with a nine-game winless streak (0-5-2-2) and the worst record in the conference at 20-43-11-8. Jocelyn Thibault stopped 22 shots in defeat.
Valeri Bure also posted a goal for Dallas (41-26-13-2), which pushed its unbeaten streak to 10 games over Chicago (8-0-2) and will take on Colorado, the fourth seed, in the first round of the playoffs.
"It was just important for us to play some good hockey," Dallas captain Mike Modano said.
Corson and Lehtinen scored less than five minutes apart in the first period to put the Stars ahead 2-0.
Corson notched his fourth goal of the season at 5:26 from Teppo Numminen and Rob DiMaio.
Then, Lehtinen got his 13th at 9:02 of the first by beating Thibault with a slap shot on the power play.
Dallas, which held a 13-7 shot advantage in the initial 20 minutes, went ahead 3-0 at 6:37 of the second on the power play. Guerin earned his 34th of the season with a tip-in.
VandenBussche got Chicago within 3-1 midway through the second. On the power play, he beat Turco with a backhand shot on a rebound in the slot with 6:57 to go.
Bure poked in his 22nd to open a 4-1 lead for the Stars in the final minute of the period. He slid a loose puck between the pads of Thibault, who was kneeling in the crease.
Corson put Dallas ahead 5-1 midway through the third period. He converted an unassisted goal on a low wrist shot from between the circles.
The Blackhawks got within 5-2 late in the third period, as VandenBussche redirected a shot by Jim Vandermeer from the right point past Turco with 5:38 to play.
Turco extended his unbeaten streak against Chicago to nine games (8-0-1) for the Stars, who went unbeaten in the season series (3-0-1)...Vandermeer finished with two assists for the Blackhawks, who went 1-for-3 on the power play...Dallas was 2-for-3 with the extra skater...Eric Daze played his 600th career NHL game, all with the Blackhawks...The Stars extended their unbeaten streak at home when leading after two periods to 78 games (72-0-6).
