NHL Game Summary - Chicago at Phoenix

(Saturday, April 3rd)

Final Score: Phoenix 2, Chicago 1 (OT)

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Krystofer Kolanos' power-play goal with 2:05 remaining in overtime lifted the Phoenix Coyotes to a 2-1 triumph over the Chicago Blackhawks at Glendale Arena.

Chicago's Scott Nichol was called off for high-sticking at 1:44 and the Coyotes cashed in 21 seconds later. Kolanos ripped a blast just inside the left circle, beating Chicago goalie Adam Munro, glove side for the game- winner, 2:55 into the extra session.

"It's the last game," Kolanos said. "It's what the fans are going to remember us by going into next year, and it was important for us to leave on a good note."

Brian Boucher stopped 23 shots for the Coyotes, who ended their dismal season on a high note with the win. Paul Mara added the other goal for Phoenix, which will miss the postseason for the third time in the last four years. Michael Rupp and Derek Morris each added an assist in the triumph.

Munro stopped 41 shots for Chicago, which will close out its season Sunday at Dallas. Tyler Arnason assisted on Tuomo Ruutu's goal. It was his 33rd helper of the season. Chicago is winless in its last eight contests (0-5-2-1). Overall the Hawks have dropped six straight games.

"I kind of wanted to get back on track after a couple of off games," Munro said. "I did a pretty good job of that, but in the end it's a matter of winning and losing. Unfortunately, we got the loss."

The Coyotes knotted up the game with 58.8 seconds remaining in the third period when Mara tucked home the disc from the slot, beating Munro glove side for the equalizer.

After a scoreless first period Chicago got on the board on Ruutu's tally. Arnason skated with the puck down the right boards, eluded several Phoenix defensemen and slipped a quick pass to Ruutu. Ruutu, who was streaking down the ice was all alone on the right doorstep and stuffed home the disc, beating Boucher glove side with 3:06 remaining.

Phoenix had a golden opportunity to knot the contest up with 4:44 left in the third when Ivan Novoseltsevn was awarded a penalty shot. Novoseltsevn tried to make several quick dekes with the puck, going from forehand to backhand, but Munro stoned him to preserve a 1-0 game.
