Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Vesa Toskala made 30 saves to post his first shutout of the season and second of his career to lead San Jose to a 3-0 win over Phoenix at Glendale Arena.

Vincent Damphousse had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who have won three straight and four of their last five overall as well as four straight on the road. With 98 points, they lead the Pacific Division by five points over idle Dallas.

Jonathan Cheechoo and Nils Ekman also scored for San Jose, which has won three straight in the series.

"I'm just getting the chances, getting the bounces," said Cheechoo. "The guys have been finding me wide open, so all I had to do was shoot the puck a bunch of times."

Brian Boucher stopped 23 shots for the Coyotes, who were shut out for the second straight game. They are winless in their last 12 home games (0-7-3-2) and have one win in their last 19 overall (1-10-4-3).

The Sharks scored once in the initial two periods to go ahead 2-0.

Cheechoo converted on a rebound on his own shot at 2:17 of the first period, beating Boucher with a high wrist shot from near the left goalpost.

Then, at 3:26 of the second period, Ekman posted his 21st of the season with a wrist shot from between the circles.

The Coyotes forced play in the second period, holing a 12-7 shot advantage. But they couldn't beat Toskala.

In the third period, Damphousse registered his 11th of the season with 4:45 to play to put San Jose ahead 3-0.

Game Notes

Patrick Marleau, Tom Preissing and Alex Korolyuk all had an assist for the Sharks, who moved with three points of idle Detroit for the top spot in Western Conference...The Sharks tied a franchise record with their 18th road victory. With 45 points, they are one shy of tying the team record for points on the road...San Jose has shut out Detroit three times this season.
