NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Chicago

(Sunday, March 7th)

Final Score: Edmonton 4, Chicago 3 (OT)

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Jarret Stoll scored the game-winner just 44 seconds into overtime, lifting the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-3 victory over Chicago at the United Center.

Off a pass from teammate Ethan Moreau, Stoll scored on a wrister in close that his the crossbar and went in.

"There was no panic," Stoll said. "We knew we'd get that goal. You can't take a night off in this league."

Eric Brewer scored two goals for the first time in his career, and Jason Smith added a goal for the Oilers, who have registered at least one point in five straight games (3-0-1-1). Tommy Salo ended with 20 saves in the win.

Edmonton is four points behind Los Angeles for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.

"To get in the playoffs, we have to find a way to win," Salo acknowledged.

Tyler Arnason had a pair of power play goals for the Blackhawks, who are winless in their last six (0-3-2-1). Eric Daze added a tally in the win, and Matt Underhill yielded four goals on 33 shots to suffer a loss in his NHL debut.

"We did well," Arnason said. "It came down to a few bounces."

Brewer's second goal of the game, and his fifth of the season, snapped a 2-2 tie at 6:21 of the third period. It came after a faceoff inside the Chicago zone, with Brewer beating Underhill on a long shot from the point.

But Daze knotted the game again just over five minutes later with his second goal in as many games since returning from a back injury. Jim Vandermeer fed him a pass, and Daze fell to the ground before gaining control of a forehand and beating Salo five-hole.

Vandermeer, who had a career-high two helpers in the game, also assisted on Arnason's power play goal 8:41 into the game, which gave the Blackhawks a brief 1-0 lead.

Brewer scored on a power play less than two minutes later to make it 1-1, and Arnason and Smith traded goals 4:09 apart in the second period for a 2-2 tie.
