NHL Game Summary - Columbus at Dallas

(Wednesday, March 3rd)

Final Score: Dallas 4, Columbus 2

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Bill Guerin posted his third hat trick of the season, as the Dallas Stars skated to a 4-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at American Airlines Center.

Guerin has 30 goals this season for the Stars, who have won seven in a row versus the Blue Jackets. Stu Barnes scored and Jason Arnott added three assists as Dallas extended its unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1).

"If he (Guerin) just gets his three every night, that will be good," Stars head coach Dave Tippett said. "We'll get the balance from everyone else."

Ron Tugnutt needed to make just 15 saves for the win.

Rick Nash provided the scoring for Columbus, which had its three-game win streak stopped. Marc Denis was peppered with 36 shots and saved 32 of them in a losing effort.

After the Blue Jackets opened the scoring on Nash's power-play goal at the 14:16 mark of the first period, Dallas scored four straight goals for the decisive victory.

Guerin posted his first marker of the night with 24 seconds remaining in the first to even the score. He took a nice feed from Arnott and beat Denis for his 28th goal.

"Everybody is just working hard, from top to bottom," Guerin said. "When you work hard, good things happen individually and as a team. We're seeing a little bit of that right now."

Dallas took a 2-1 lead when Barnes got into the action with his 10th tally 5:29 into the second period. Guerin then scored again midway through the stanza to make it a two-goal cushion with an assist from Arnott.

Guerin then notched his sixth career hat trick just 25 seconds into the third period for a 4-1 lead. Guerin skated from behind the net, spun around and fired the puck through Denis' pads from below the left circle.

"The way our guys played, there was no way we weren't going to win," said Stars goaltender Ron Tugnutt. "We could have had 10 goals tonight."

Nash completed the scoring at 17:55 of the third and tied Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk for the league lead in goals with 36.
