NHL Game Summary - Boston at Toronto

(Tuesday, February 17th)

Final Score: Boston 5, Toronto 2

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Glen Murray posted a goal and an assist to lead Boston to a 5-2 win over Toronto at Air Canada Centre.

Mike Knuble, Andy Hilbert, Ted Donato and Joe Thornton also scored for the Bruins, who won after consecutive overtime losses. They have earned a point in 10 straight games (7-0-1-2) and improved to 8-2-1-1 in their last 12 on the road. Andrew Raycroft made 22 saves in the win.

"I don't think we're surprising anyone anymore," Thornton said. "The league knows we're playing well."

Owen Nolan and Matthew Stajan scored for the Maple Leafs, who lost for the second time in six games (3-2-1).

"We had to score eight goals to win last night," Toronto head coach Pat Quinn said. "That doesn't say a lot about how your team is playing. We have to look at ourselves. It's easy to blame someone else. Our team play has not been good enough for any goaltender."

Knuble posted his 17th goal of the season on a wrist shot 32 seconds into the game to put Boston ahead 1-0.

The Bruins pushed their edge to 2-0 on a wrist shot by Hilbert from the left faceoff circle. He beat Trevor Kidd with 8:12 left in the first period.

Kidd, the Toronto goaltender, stopped 21 shots.

A shorthanded goal by Nolan pulled Toronto within 2-1 as his wrist shot from between the circles beat Raycroft with 5:04 remaining in the first.

Murray's 24th goal, with 3:41 to play in the period, pushed the Boston edge to 3-1. He scored on a low wrist shot in the slot.

Consecutive tallies by Donato and Thornton to open the second period staked the Bruins to a 5-1 lead.

Donato scored on a wrist shot at 2:49 and Thornton's wrister from between the circles beat Kidd 54 seconds later.

Stajan pulled the Maple Leafs within 5-2 at 6:25 of the period. His 11th goal of the season came on a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle.
