NHL Game Summary - Minnesota at Columbus

(Saturday, January 31st)

Final Score: Columbus 2, Minnesota 1 (OT)

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Anders Eriksson scored with 2:01 left in overtime to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Wild at Nationwide Arena. Marc Denis made 31 saves for the Blue Jackets, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Sergei Zholtok scored the tying goal with 3:22 left in regulation for the Wild, who have lost two in a row and are winless in five straight (0-2-1-2).

Minnesota goaltender Dwayne Roloson made 27 saves in a losing effort.

The Wild trailed 1-0 before Zholtok's seventh goal of the season tied things up at the 16:38 mark of the third period. Andrew Brunette carried the puck around the back of the net and lost control of the puck as he was taken down near the right post. Zholtok retrieved the puck in the slot and beat Denis with a shot through traffic.

However, Eriksson gave Columbus the victory when he fired a shot from the right point that deflected off the stick of Wild forward Eric Chouinard and eluded Roloson for the game-winner.

"He wound up to shoot blocker side and the next thing you know, the puck was going the other way," said Roloson about the game-winner. "It's just one of those things where guys are working hard to get there and block the shot and make a play, and it goes off a leg and into the net. You can't fault them."

The goal was only the second of the season for Eriksson, who now has 16 career NHL goals.

"I don't score too many goals," said Eriksson. "You've got to make 'em count. It's better to have quality than quantity."

Columbus took a 1-0 lead with 9:36 left in the first period on a power-play goal by David Vyborny, who came skating through the slot and redirected Jaroslav Spacek's pass from the top of the right circle into the net. The goal was Vyborny's 14th of the season.

Blue Jackets left wing Rick Nash assisted on the goal to give him six points (three goals, three assists) in his last four games. However, he later suffered a foot injury and left the game.

Roloson went down for a couple of minutes after a collision with Columbus center Todd Marchant with 6:55 left in the third, but remained in the contest.
