NHL Game Summary - Tampa Bay at Calgary

(Saturday, January 24th)

Final Score: Tampa Bay 6, Calgary 2

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Martin St. Louis posted his second hat trick of the season and added an assist to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to an easy 6-2 win over the Calgary Flames at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

Brad Richards, Tim Taylor and Ruslan Fedotenko also scored for the Lightning, who have won two straight and lead the Southeast Division. Vincent Lecavalier added three assists and John Grahame made 18 saves in the victory.

"We didn't make it hard on those guys," Flames captain Jarome Iginla said.

Dean McAmmond and Martin Gelinas scored for the Flames, and Roman Turek stopped 23-of-29 shots, as Calgary lost for the second time in three games.

With the game tied 2-2 midway through the second period, Tampa scored the final four goals to put the game away.

Richards scored his 10th of the year 11:34 into the second period. He came up the right wing boards and blasted a shot stick-side past Turek from outside the faceoff circle.

Taylor scored the fourth Lightning goal just over three minutes later. His long slap shot from the just inside the blue line at the middle of the ice, stayed about two feet off the ice and beat Turekj stick side.

The Lightning went ahead 5-2 on St. Louis' third goal of the night, with 1:40 remaining in the second. Lecavailer skated out to the side of the net, carrying the puck, and found St. Louis moving into the slot. St. Louis wristed it in the five-hole.

A little over two minutes into the third period, Fedotenko capped the scoring with his ninth tally of the season, ripping a shot from just outside the faceoff circle.

"Our goaltending wasn't good enough," Calgary head coach Darryl Sutter said.

McAmmond opened the scoring 10:20 into the game, but St. Louis answered with back-to-back goals, at the 19:19 mark of the first, and 6:09 into the second. Gelinas' goal 3 1/2 minutes later tied the game at two apiece and was all the offense Calgary would muster.
