Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Peter Forsberg posted two goals and an assist to lead Colorado to a 5-3 win over Pittsburgh at Mellon Arena.
Steve Konowalchuk finished with a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who are unbeaten in their last 10 (9-0-1) in the series and their last four overall (3-0-1). Joe Sakic and Teemu Selanne also scored.
"Colorado has players that can win games by themselves," Pittsburgh coach Eddie Olczyk said. "Sometimes that�s what it comes down to."
Tomas Surovy delivered a goal and an assist for the Penguins, who tied a franchise record set in 1983 with their seventh straight home loss and suffered their sixth straight loss overall. Milan Kraft and Brooks Orpik also notched tallies in the loss.
Phil Sauve made 25 saves for Colorado, which scored three goals in the second period to take a 4-1 advantage.
Forsberg delivered a tip-in goal 1:15 into the second, and Selanne added his 12th of the season with 8:54 remaining. Konowalchuk capped the scoring in the period with a tally at the 1:11 mark against Marc-Andre Fleury.
Fleury, the Pittsburgh goaltender, finished with 28 saves.
Consecutive goals by Kraft and Orpik got the Penguins within 4-3 midway through the third period.
Kraft delivered a wrist shot at 2:59 of the third before Orpik beat Sauve on a tip-in with 8:45 to play.
Forsberg's 12th goal of the season, a wrister, put the Avalanche ahead 5-3 with 4:31 remaining. He missed the four previous games with a groin injury.
"He missed a lot of practice time," Colorado head coach Tony Granato said. "But Forsberg came back [like himself]."
Sakic's 21st goal put the Avalanche ahead 1-0 just 1:22 into the game. He converted a wrist shot in the slot.
Pittsburgh forged a 1-1 tie on a power-play goal by Surovy. Positioned in the slot, he knocked down a pass, gathered the puck and beat Sauve with a short wrist shot with 8:06 remaining in the period.
Milan Hejduk and Paul Kariya each had two assists for the Avalanche, who improved to 14-1-3 in their last 18 games against Pittsburgh...Colorado is 7-0-3-1 in its last 11 road games.
