NHL Game Summary - St. Louis at Florida

(Monday, January 19th)

Final Score: St. Louis 2, Florida 1 (OT)

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Pavol Demitra scored his second goal of the game just 48 seconds into overtime, lifting the St. Louis Blues to a 2-1 victory over Florida at the Office Depot Center.

Chris Osgood stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced in net for the Blues and improved to 12-1-5 all-time against the Panthers.

Keith Tkachuk assisted on both St. Louis goals, as the Blues improved to 3-1-1 over their last five games.

Olli Jokinen gave Florida a 1-0 lead in the first period, and nearly won the game late in regulation, but his wrister from the right circle was stopped by Osgood with just over 10 seconds remaining in the third period.

"I thought we had a number of chances to win in the third," Panthers head coach Rick Dudley said. "I thought Olli had one. There were a couple."

Then, in overtime, Demitra poke-checked Florida defenseman Mike Van Ryn in the neutral zone and skated down the right boards. He moved in against Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo, beating the netminder from just in front of the crease with his 16th of the season.

Luongo stopped 32 of the 34 shots he faced in the loss. He has faced at least 30 shots in 33 of his 41 appearances this season.

Jokinen gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead with his 15th at 9:05 of the first period. Using teammate Marcus Nilson as a screen in front, he beat Osgood to the far side with a slapshot from the right circle.

"It was nice to see it done with two people standing in front of the goaltender," Dudley said.

But Demitra knotted the game just 4:24 later with his first of the game. Luongo was expecting a pass as Demitra moved through the slot, but was beaten through the legs instead.
