NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Colorado

(Tuesday, January 13th)

Final Score: Colorado 3, Anaheim 1

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Peter Forsberg and Rob Blake both posted a goal and an assist to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 3-1 victory over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim at the Pepsi Center.

Paul Kariya scored his sixth goal of the season against his former team and Alex Tanguay added a pair of assists for Colorado, which has earned a point in each of its last eight games (7-0-0-1).

Due to injuries, this was the first time that Kariya, who left the Mighty Ducks after almost leading them to a Stanley Cup title last season, played against his former team. In the first two meetings between these teams this season, Kariya was sidelined with an injured wrist.

David Aebischer stopped all but one of the 30 shots he faced in the victory.

Blake left the game in the second period with a hand injury and did not return.

Sergei Fedorov scored the only goal for Anaheim, which extended its winless streak to seven (0-4-3).

Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed three goals on 18 shots for the Mighty Ducks.

Forsberg's eighth goal of the season, aided by a nice give-and-go with Tanguay, staked the Avalanche to an early 1-0 lead at the 5:38 mark of the opening period.

Under three minutes later, Blake pushed the Colorado lead to two on the power play. He took a feed from Forsberg at the center point and ripped a one-timer through the pads of Giguere with 11:31 to play in the first.

The only goal of the middle frame came during a Colorado power play. Kariya dug the puck out of the corner and it ended up on the stick of Blake. A blast from the point was then saved, but the rebound sat in front before Kariya punched it in near the right post.

Aebischer's shutout bid was ended by Fedorov, who tallied with a slap shot from the top of the left circle at 4:54 of the final period.

Colorado ended 2-for-6 on the power play, while the Mighty Ducks could not convert on four chances with the man advantage.
