NHL Game Summary - Tampa Bay at Pittsburgh

(Tuesday, January 13th)

Final Score: Tampa Bay 3, Pittsburgh 1

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Cory Stillman and Dave Andreychuk each notched a goal and an assist to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh at Mellon Arena.

Brad Richards also scored for the Lightning, who have won four straight overall and won in Pittsburgh for the first time since 1999 (1-5-1-1).

Tampa Bay goaltender John Grahame made 12 saves in facing only 13 shots. He had an easy third period, as the Penguins were only able to get two shots on net.

Ryan Malone scored the lone goal for the Penguins, who lost their fifth straight home contest. Pittsburgh is just 2-7-0 in its last nine overall, with its lone victories in that span at Eastern Conference powerhouses New Jersey and Philadelphia.

Jean-Sebastien Aubin made 28 saves in defeat. The Penguins were at least competitive in this game, as they dropped a 9-0 decision in the first meeting with the Lightning on November 8 in Tampa.

Tampa Bay was 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Pens were 1-for-2, marking their third power-play goal in the last two games.

Stillman gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead on a power play just 3:32 into the contest. Moments after Kelly Buchberger went off for slashing, Andreychuk won a faceoff back to Stillman, who fired a shot that deflected off Pittsburgh defenseman Eric Meloche's stick before going past Aubin.

Richards made it 2-0 just 46 seconds later with his seventh goal.

Pittsburgh, which failed to get a shot on goal until there were only 6 1/2 minutes left in the period, got back to within one at the 15:27 mark. Malone skated to the front of the net and redirected a Dick Tarnstrom pass from the right corner through Grahame's pads for his 10th goal.

Andreychuk gave Tampa Bay a two-goal cushion at 3-1 with a little less than three minutes remaining in the game, as he put the puck past Aubin on a rebound off a Chris Dingman slap shot.

Game Notes

Fredrik Modin recorded an assist on the Lightning's second goal to extend his point streak to four games...Tampa Bay has won three of the last four meetings...The Lightning have allowed just one goal in each of their last four games.
