Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Jean-Sebastien Aubin made 33 saves and Pittsburgh got goals from Dick Tarnstrom and Tom Kostopoulos to beat Philadelphia, 2-1, at the Wachovia Center.
The victory was just the third for the Penguins in their last 14 games (3-9-1-1).
Mike Comrie scored for Philadelphia, which is winless in its last five outings (0-3-1-1). Robert Esche made 19 saves for the Flyers.
Pittsburgh built a 2-0 lead and hung on for its first win in South Philly in nine trips (1-7-1).
With the Penguins on a power play, Aleksey Morozov won a faceoff in the right circle to set up the game's first goal. The puck came back to the point to Martin Strbak, who sent a pass across the ice to Tarnstrom. The shot from the top of the left circle beat Esche at 16:12 of the opening period to give Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead.
Kostopoulos scored on the power play to give Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead midway through the second period. Strbak started the play with a lead pass to Kostopoulos, who gained the blue line and chipped the puck to Rico Fata on his left. The shot by Fata from low in the left circle was stopped by Esche, but the rebound went to Kostopoulos in the slot and he had an open net to score his fifth goal of the season.
Chris Therien's shot from the left point was deflected by Comrie past Aubin 4:35 into the third period to cut the Penguins' lead to 2-1.
The Flyers, who failed on a pair of 5-on-3 power-play opportunities against Edmonton on Saturday, failed to take advantage of a two-man advantage in the second period.
Comrie fired the puck wide of an open net and Aubin robbed Mark Recchi in the final period to allow the Penguins to escape with the win.
Philadelphia has scored more than two goals just twice in its last 11 games...The Penguins beat Philly for the first time in eight meetings (1-5-2)...Esche is 0-3-1 in his last four starts...Pittsburgh finished 2-for-5 on the power play, while the Flyers failed in four opportunities with the extra skater.
