NHL Game Summary - Columbus at Anaheim

(Sunday, January 11th)

Final Score: Columbus 2, Anaheim 2

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Rick Nash scored the tying goal in the third period and Marc Denis made 11 saves in overtime, as the Columbus Blue Jackets skated to a 2-2 tie with Anaheim at the Pond.

Denis finished with 41 saves for the Blue Jackets, who are unbeaten in three games (1-0-2). All three have gone to overtime. Columbus is 2-2-2 on a seven- game road trip that ends Thursday in St. Louis.

Todd Simpson and Vitaly Vishnevski each scored for Anaheim, which is 0-3-3 in its last six.

Martin Gerber faced 37 shots and stopped 35 for the Mighty Ducks. Gerber did not feel much heat in the overtime, needing to make just one save.

Nash tied the game for Columbus with 5:23 left in the third period. Mark Hartigan assisted on the play by passing the puck out of the corner into the slot, where Nash was waiting to flip it over Gerber for his 25th goal.

Simpson had given the Mighty Ducks a 2-1 lead with his third goal of the season earlier in the period at the 7:44 mark. Simpson, who scored only two goals all of last season, picked up a loose puck in front of the net off a Joffrey Lupul slap shot and put it past Denis.

Denis had a busy first period for Columbus as he faced 11 shots. Gerber kept it scoreless for Anaheim with seven saves.

Vishnevski put the Mighty Ducks on the board first in the second period. He slipped into the center of the crease and backhanded a loose puck past Denis at the 9:24 mark for a 1-0 Anaheim lead.

Nikolai Zherdev got the equalizer for the Blue Jackets at the 16:16 mark of the second, as he took a pass from Todd Marchant, wheeled around and fired a wrister from the left circle that beat Gerber.
