NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Philadelphia

(Saturday, January 10th)

Final Score: Edmonton 3, Philadelphia 0

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Tommy Salo made 26 saves for his first shutout of the season, leading the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-0 victory over Philadelphia at the Wachovia Center.

Raffi Torres, Shawn Horcoff and Mike York scored for the Oilers, who snapped a two-game losing streak and won for the third time in five games (3-1-0-1) on a six-game road trip that ends Sunday in Washington. York added an assist.

Flyers center Mike Comrie made his first appearance against the Oilers since being traded to Philadelphia last month after a long holdout for Edmonton. He had two shots on net for the Flyers, who have just two wins in their last 10 games (2-4-2-2).

Torres opened the scoring at 15:00 of the first period with his 12th goal of the season. York skated down the right side and centered a pass for Torres, who beat Philly goaltender Robert Esche stick-side with a one-timer.

Esche ended with 19 saves on 22 shots.

After a scoreless second period, Horcoff made it 2-0 with 8:14 remaining in the game. He broke loose on an odd-man rush with Brad Isbister, who had the puck drift off his stick in front of the net.

Horcoff was there to pick it up in the crease, however, and he beat Esche for his sixth goal of the season.

York capped the scoring just under four minutes later with his 14th goal.

Salo was tested with 11 shots in the third period, his best of the game. He stopped five shots in the first period and turned away 10 in the second for the Oilers' second shutout of the season and the 35th of his career.

Game Notes

Comrie, an Edmonton native, was dealt to the Flyers in exchange for defenseman Jeff Woywitka, a first round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and a third round pick in the 2005 draft...Edmonton is unbeaten in its last three meetings (2-0-1) with Philadelphia.
