San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Patrick Marleau and Nicholas Dimitrakos had a goal and an assist as San Jose continued its strong play with a 5-2 win over Atlanta at HP Pavilion.
Nils Ekman, Mike Rathje and Alexander Korolyuk also scored for the Sharks, who have picked up at least one point in 10 of their last 11 games (8-1-1-1).
Evgeni Nabokov denied 31-of-33 shots to record his 100th career victory, as San Jose improved to 5-1-2 all-time against the Thrashers.
Shawn McEachern and Ivan Majesky scored for Atlanta, which remained winless in its last six games (0-5-0-1).
The Sharks took advantage of an early power play, using some nice passing to get on the scoreboard. Vincent Damphousse had the puck in the high slot and faked a slap shot. Instead of shooting he sent a perfect pass to Korolyuk at the right post for the easy tap-in goal at 2:08 of the opening period.
Ekman doubled San Jose's advantage slightly over two minutes later. He skated into the Thrashers' zone and unleashed a nasty wrist shot past the blocker of Pasi Nurminen and inside the left post.
Dimitrakos pushed the Sharks' advantage to 3-0 when he skated in on a breakaway and lifted a backhander over the netminder at the 13:20 mark of the opening period.
Atlanta controlled the action in the opening period, outshooting the Sharks by a 14-7 margin. Nabokov was brilliant, while Nurminen went to the bench after permitting three goals in the first.
Byron Dafoe replaced Nurminen to start the second period and finished the game with 17 saves.
Majesky scored the only goal of the second period when he picked up a long rebound in the slot and beat Nabokov for his third goal of the season. The even-strength goal at 12:51 of the stanza drew the Thrashers within 3-1.
But Atlanta could not get closer, and Marleau pushed the margin back to two goals when he scored 12 minutes into the third period. Dimitrakos took a shot from the right circle which Dafoe stopped. The rebound, though, bounced to Marleau in front, allowing him to beat the goaltender with a nice backhand shot.
McEachern's goal with four minutes remaining again made it a two-goal game at 4-2, but Rathje added an empty-netter with five seconds remaining to solidify the San Jose victory.
Rathje posted his first goal in 70 games....Wayne Primeau recorded a pair of assists for the Sharks..Atlanta fell to 0-3-1 all-time at San Jose...Daniel Tjarnqvist had two assists in the losing effort.
