NHL Game Summary - Philadelphia at Dallas
(Monday, December 29th)
Final Score: Philadelphia 2, Dallas 2
Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Sergei Zubov and Pierre Turgeon both scored power-play goals to rally the Dallas Stars to a 2-2 tie with Philadelphia at AmericanAirlines Center.
These teams have tied eight times in their last 14 overall meetings.
Marty Turco made 26 saves in net for the Stars, including 13 in the third period and two in overtime as Dallas extended its unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1).
Mike Comrie scored his first goal in a Flyers uniform in just his second game since joining the team in a trade with Edmonton earlier this month. Kim Johnsson also lit the lamp for Philadelphia, which is winless in its last six road games (0-2-3-1) and just 1-3-3-3 in its last 10 overall.
Johnsson made it 2-0 midway through the second period when he used a Dallas defenseman as a screen from the left circle, but Zubov scored on a power play less than six minutes later at 16:04 to pull Dallas within 2-1.
That goal came after Philadelphia captain Keith Primeau was whistled off for a high-sticking minor, and it would be another high-stick penalty by the Flyers that would lead to Dallas' second goal.
With rookie defenseman Joni Pitkanen in the box early in the third period, Turgeon scored on a deflection at 3:18 to tie the game at 2-2. Zubov picked up his team-leading 17th assist on the play.
Turgeon had the best scoring chance in overtime when he picked off a pass just outside the Philadelphia zone, but his slap shot from the left circle was snared by Flyers goaltender Robert Esche.
Esche finished with 20 saves, including two in the extra period.
After logging just six minutes of ice time without registering a shot in a loss at Colorado on Saturday night, Comrie got the Flyers on the board first in this one.
The play developed when Philadelphia defenseman Eric Desjardins sent a shot on net from the left boards that was turned aside by Turco. Comrie then found himself in position for the rebound, scoring into the open side of the net for a 1-0 lead at 15:22 of the first period.
It was his first goal since last season's playoffs when he scored for Edmonton in a first round, Game 5 loss to Dallas.
The Stars are 6-1-2 in their last nine games...The Flyers are 1-0-3 in the last four meetings with Dallas and have managed only one win in their last nine trips to Big D (1-5-3)...The Stars were 2-for-7 on the power play, while Philadelphia went scoreless with two opportunities on the man advantage...Dallas has now killed off 40 consecutive power plays (10 games).
