Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Zdeno Chara scored his eighth goal of the season late in the third period to force overtime and help Ottawa salvage a 3-3 tie with Pittsburgh at the Corel Centre.
Todd White and Jason Spezza also scored for the Senators, who remain unbeaten in their last five (3-0-2).
Patrick Lalime registered eight saves for Ottawa, which set a franchise record by allowing just 10 shots on goal in regulation.
Tom Kostopoulos scored two first-period goals and Steve McKenna also scored for the Penguins, who are winless in their last four (0-2-0-1). Sebastien Caron made 41 saves in the loss.
McKenna's backhand shot from the right slot, 2:45 into the second period, regained a 3-2 lead for Pittsburgh.
Chara scored on a slap shot from between the circles to forge a 3-3 for the Senators with 5:11 left in the third period.
Two early goals by Kostopoulos staked the Penguins to a 2-0 edge. He opened the scoring at 2:14 with a wrist shot in the slot. He converted on a similar shot 2:59 later. Tomas Surovy and Brian Holzinger assisted on both goals.
The Senators posted consecutive goals to force a 2-2 tie at the end of the first. White tipped in his fifth tally with 7:54 left in the period. Spezza delivered his 12th, on the power play, with 36 seconds to go.
Ottawa dominated play in the first period, holding a 14-5 shot advantage.
Kostopoulos has delivered three of his four career goals against Ottawa and Lalime...White extended his goal streak to three games...The Penguins are 2-12-2-3 on the road this season.
