NHL Game Summary - Phoenix at Nashville

(Monday, December 22nd)

Final Score: Phoenix 3, Nashville 3

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Scott Walker posted his second-career hat trick for Nashville while Shane Doan had a goal and two assists for Phoenix, as the Predators and Coyotes skated to a 3-3 tie at Gaylord Entertainment Center.

Jan Hrdina had a goal and an assist for the Coyotes and Ladislav Nagy also lit the lamp for Phoenix, which tied for the fourth time in five games (0-1-4). Brian Boucher faced 29 Nashville shots.

Jeremy Stevenson picked up a beautiful assist on the goal that gave Walker his hat-trick, and Tomas Vokoun stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced to earn the point for the Predators, who have earned points in their last four games (1-0-1-2).

Doan's 14th goal of the season 8:40 into the final stanza lifted the Coyotes into a 3-3 tie. Doan's shot from the slot deflected off Nashville defenseman Dan Hamhuis and past Vokoun for the equalizer.

The Coyotes were saddled with a penalty with 34 seconds left in regulation, and the Predators were called for penalties in the extra session, but neither team could solve the opposing netminder.

Nagy opened the scoring 7:54 into the contest on his 16th goal of the season, a power play tally, but Nashville answered with two straight goals from Walker.

The first came with less than a minute to go in the first. Walker in the low slot took a backhand pass from Martin Erat at the left boards, and whizzed a shot by Boucher for his ninth of the year.

Walker's second came in bizarre fashion at the 5:33 mark of the second. Walker put a shot on net off a pass from Rem Murray that trickled over the goal line. The red light went on, but Boucher deftly maneuvered the puck out of the goal mouth so that the referees could not stop play with certainty.

Play continued for nearly two minutes before play was stopped when Branko Radivojevic was called for hooking. Walker's shot was reviewed and ruled a goal, and the clock was rolled back to 14:27 in the second.

Hrdina got Phoenix even at two apiece in the final two minutes of the stanza, but just under a minute later, Walker earned the hat-trick with 45 seconds to go in the period. Stevenson was in the right circle, held the puck momentarily, and hit a streaking Walker on the tape in the low slot. Walker redirected the pass past Boucher to give his team the lead.
