NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Florida
(Friday, December 19th)
Final Score: Florida 1, Dallas 0
Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Roberto Luongo made 36 saves for his 18th career shutout, leading the Florida Panthers to a 1-0 victory over the Dallas Stars at the Office Depot Center.
Luongo stopped 11 shots in the first period, turned aside seven in the second and needed 18 saves in the third period for his second shutout of the season. Marcus Nilson scored the game's only goal, as the Panthers won for just the second time in their last 11 games (2-3-5-1).
Marty Turco made 23 saves in net for the Stars, who are 2-1-1 since a five- game losing streak.
After a scoreless first period, Florida grabbed a 1-0 lead on Nilson's shorthanded tally at 7:01 of the second stanza.
Byron Ritchie set up the goal by skating end-to-end with the puck, moving easily down the right side and into the Dallas zone before sending a pass to Nilson in the right circle. Nilson controlled a bouncing puck and flipped the shot over a sprawled-out Turco for his second goal of the season -- and first in 31 games.
Dallas' best chance in the third period came on a Bill Guerin slapshot from the left side at 6:41, but Luongo made a nice glove save, handing the Stars their 12th road loss of the season.
Dallas had just 12 road losses all of last season.
The Stars are just 0-5-1 in their last six road games...Florida and Dallas split two meetings last season, and the Panthers have won four of the last six times the clubs have met.
