NHL Game Summary - Vancouver at Dallas

(Wednesday, December 17th)

Final Score: Dallas 3, Vancouver 1

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Bill Guerin and Rob DiMaio scored third-period goals to lift the Dallas Stars to a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks at American Airlines Center.

Guerin and Jason Arnott each finished with a goal and an assist for the Stars, who are unbeaten in three straight (2-0-1) after suffering through a five-game losing streak. Dallas scored more than two goals for the first time since November 26 -- a span of nine games.

Marty Turco made 22 saves in the victory.

Markus Naslund scored the lone goal for Vancouver, which lost for the first time in six games (3-1-2). It was also the first time in the last six outings the Canucks didn't need an overtime period.

Dan Cloutier stopped 25 shots in defeat.

Guerin snapped a 1-1 tie at 9:51 of the third period with his 17th goal. He worked the puck along the back boards and pushed it along to Pierre Turgeon. Guerin moved into the right circle and one-timed Turgeon's feed past a screened Cloutier on the stick side.

DiMaio then extended the lead just 3:17 later, scoring his fourth goal of the season and his first in 15 games. Stu Barnes did most of the work to set up the goal, outracing Vancouver defenseman Brent Sopel to reach Sergei Zubov's dump in. DiMaio got the puck from Barnes, who then moved to the front of the net to battle with Sopel. DiMaio took a shot from the left boards and the puck deflected off a pair of Vancouver skates, including Sopel's, before going past Cloutier.

Turco needed to turn aside just three Vancouver shots in the third period.

Arnott scored his eighth goal to give Dallas a 1-0 lead just 4:23 into the contest. He deflected a Guerin shot past Cloutier for his eighth goal of the season.

Turco stopped all 12 shots he faced in the first period, but Naslund scored at 7:38 of the second to tie it for Vancouver.

Todd Bertuzzi had the puck behind the Dallas net and fed a pass into the right circle for Brendan Morrison, who spotted Naslund racing down the slot. Naslund took Morrison's feed and quickly snapped a shot past Turco for his 17th goal of the season.
