Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Miikka Kiprusoff earned his first shutout of the season and Shean Donovan scored early in the third period to lead Calgary to a 1-0 win over Carolina at the Saddledome.
Kiprusoff stopped 23 shots, including 13 in the third period, to earn his fourth career shutout. The Flames won for the fifth time in six games, are unbeaten in regulation in their last nine home games (7-0-1-1) and have earned a point in 11 of their last 12 overall (8-1-1-2).
The Hurricanes fell to 1-2-1-1 in their last five.
Carolina had the best scoring opportunity of the first period, but couldn't convert a 2-on-1. Kiprusoff turned away a shot from the right faceoff circle with less than three minutes left in the period.
After a scoreless second period, Calgary went ahead 1-0 just 1:45 into the third period.
Robyn Regehr fired a shot on goal from the left point. Donovan outhustled a defender to the loose puck in the slot and tipped a diving shot past Kevin Weekes. He has 10 goals in his last eight games.
Weekes, the Carolina goaltender, stopped 30-of-31 shots.
