NHL Game Summary - Washington at Colorado

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Rob Blake and Teemu Selanne both had a goal and an assist to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals at the Pepsi Center.
Andrei Nikolishin and Alex Tanguay also posted goals for the Avalanche, who extended their unbeaten streak to six games (4-0-2). David Aebischer made 22 saves and Joe Sakic notched three assists in the win.
The Avs have recorded a point in 15 of their last 17 games (11-2-3-1).
Sergei Gonchar scored the lone goal for Washington, which has lost three straight and four of its last seven (2-5-0). Olaf Kolzig turned aside 25 shots in a losing cause.
Colorado set the tone with a pair of first-period goals. Selanne netted the first one 5:44 into the opening period for his ninth goal of the season.
Blake then pushed the lead to 2-0 at the 11:13 mark. Milan Hejduk slid the puck across to Blake, whose one-timer from the right circle beat Kolzig stick side.
Washington reached the scoreboard just 1:04 into the second period when Gonchar cashed in a power play. His one-timer sailed past the goaltender's right shoulder.
Nikolishin then extended the margin to 3-1 with an unassisted tally at the 17:57 mark of the third period. Tanguay added an empty-netter with 59 seconds remaining to complete the scoring.
The Caps were 1-for-4 on the power play and killed off each of Colorado's five chances with the extra skater...Washington is still 3-1-1 in the last five meetings against the Avs...Washington has an NHL-worst 18 losses this season.
