NHL Game Summary - Philadelphia at Montreal

(Monday, December 8th)

Final Score: Philadelphia 3, Montreal 2

Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - John LeClair scored with 1:13 remaining in regulation to lift the Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre.

Kim Johnsson and Marcus Ragnarsson also scored for the Flyers, who notched a pair of goals with less than four minutes to go in the third period for the victory. Philadelphia improved to 13-1-3 in its last 17.

Jeff Hackett made 36 saves as the NHL-leading Flyers extended their current unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1). Philadelphia has 41 points -- four more than idle Toronto.

Pierre Dagenais and Richard Zednik lit the lamp for Montreal, which had its five-game unbeaten streak (3-0-2) halted. Mathieu Garon turned aside 28 shots in the loss -- Montreal's sixth in a row versus Philadelphia.

Trailing by a 2-1 score late in the third period, the Flyers posted two goals in less than four minutes for the victory.

Ragnarsson registered the equalizer with 3:19 remaining in regulation. The defenseman took a pass inside the left circle and wristed the puck through Garon's pads.

Then, with 1:13 on the clock, LeClair re-directed an Eric Weinrich slap shot past Garon for the game-winner. LeClair has six goals this season and 30 in his career versus his old team.

After a scoreless first period, both teams had a chance to take the lead late in the second. Montreal's Saku Koivu was denied on a rush with six minutes to go in the period, while Mark Recchi ripped a shot off the post three minutes later.

Montreal would eventually strike first as Zednik netted his ninth goal of the season at 17:41 of the frame. Dagenais dumped the puck behind the Philadelphia net where Mike Ribeiro collected it. He then slid the puck in front to Zednik, who pushed the disc past Hackett.

The Flyers tied the game on Johnsson's tally 2:42 into the third period. Tony Amonte fed Johnsson, who unleashed a slap shot just inside the blue line.

Amonte was later denied by Garon on a breakaway. Jeremy Roenick fed a streaking Amonte, whose backhander was stopped by Garon's left pad.

Montreal then took back the lead on Dagenais' goal midway through the third. Flyers defenseman Joni Pitkanen lost the puck behind the net and Dagenais skated in on an odd angle and wristed a shot under the crossbar at 10:12.
