NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Anaheim
(Sunday, December 7th)
Final Score: Anaheim 4, Dallas 0
Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Martin Gerber made 32 saves for his second shutout of the season, leading the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim to a 4-0 victory over the Dallas Stars at the Pond.
Kurt Sauer notched a goal and an assist for the Ducks, who snapped a three- game losing streak and won for only the second time in their last 10 games (2-3-3-2). Anaheim improved to 5-0-2-1 in its last eight home games.
Vaclav Prospal, Joffrey Lupul and Sergei Fedorov also scored for the Ducks, while Niclas Havelid picked up a pair of assists in the victory.
Marty Turco made 33 saves for the Stars, who have lost four in a row. Dallas has been shut out twice in that span and has notched just two goals during the slide.
The goaltenders took center stage in a scoreless first period, as Turco stopped 15 shots and Gerber turned aside 14 Dallas chances.
The Ducks then scored three times in the second period to take control. The first two goals came 22 seconds apart during a power play.
Skating 5-on-3, Prospal knocked in the rebound of a Havelid shot for his sixth goal to make it 1-0 at 4:25.
Still on a power play moments later, Havelid made a nice play to keep the puck in the offensive zone and sent a pass to Stanislav Chistov. Chistov quickly fed the puck across to the left circle for Lupul, who fired a shot past Turco for his sixth goal.
Sauer then scored at the 7:40 mark, taking a feed from Samuel Pahlsson and firing home a shot from the slot for his first goal of the season.
Gerber, meanwhile, made nine saves in the second period and turned aside nine more in the third to complete his third career shutout.
Fedorov sealed it with 4:52 to play in the third, scoring shorthanded for his 10th goal of the season.
