NHL Game Summary - Nashville at Columbus

(Thursday, December 4th)

Final Score: Nashville 4, Columbus 2

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Rem Murray and Scott Hartnell each notched second-period goals, as Nashville extended its franchise-best winning streak to six games with a 4-2 victory over Columbus at Nationwide Arena.

Greg Johnson and Scott Walker also scored while Tomas Vokoun made 37 saves for the Predators, who improved to 10-2 over their last 12 games.

Nikolai Zherdev and Rick Nash each lit the lamp for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped three of their last four games (1-3). Marc Denis turned aside 20 shots in the setback.

The Predators scored the game's first goal on Murray's fourth of the year at the 2:58 mark of the second period and tallied again only 21 seconds later.

David Legwand controlled the puck into the Blue Jackets zone where he blasted the disc off the crossbar. The puck bounced in front of Denis and Hartnell poked in the rebound for a 2-0 edge.

Johnson's seventh goal of the season with 13:29 left in the game widened the cushion to 3-0, but Columbus finally got on the board on Zherdev's first NHL score just under one minute later. Zherdev beat Denis on the far side with a wrister from the left circle to bring the Blue Jackets within two.

The lead was trimmed to 3-2 on Nash's score with 20.7 seconds remaining. Columbus had an extra skater after it pulled Denis and was able to capitalize. Geoff Sanderson had the puck at the right circle and fed a pass in front of the net. Zherdev then got a stick on it before Nash re-directed it in for the score.

Walker then scored into an empty net with 15.5 seconds left for the final margin.

Columbus appeared to grab a 1-0 lead midway through the first period as Zherdev beat Vokoun on a wraparound, but after a review it was determined the net was dislodged and the goal was disallowed.
