NHL Game Summary - Ottawa at Florida

(Wednesday, December 3rd)

Final Score: Ottawa 4, Florida 0

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Martin Prusek stopped 30 shots for his first career shutout and Zdeno Chara picked up a goal and two assists to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 4-0 blanking of the Florida Panthers at the Office Depot Center.

Martin Havlat added a goal and an assist and Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson each tallied a goal for the Senators, who won their second straight.

Roberto Luongo, who came into the game unbeaten in his last four games, stopped 39-of-43 shots in the Panthers' loss.

It was the fifth time in six games that Florida has given up 37 shots or more, as the team's winless streak reached four contests (0-2-2).

Ottawa grabbed an early one-goal lead less than two minutes in when Chara scored his sixth goal of the year. His low wrist shot from the right point beat Luongo past his extended right pad and just inside the post.

Alfredsson scored at the 6:49 mark of the second when he picked up a loose puck inside the right circle and carried it around Mathieu Biron, who was expecting a pass. Alfredsson then went in on Luongo, deked left and went to the forehand, stuffing the puck under the goaltender's glove.

Luongo, reaching back for the trickling puck, accidentally knocked it over the goal line for the 2-0 Ottawa lead.

With less than five minutes to go in the period, Spezza picked up a loose puck just outside the offensive zone and cruised into the right circle. From there, he let loose a perfect slapshot from a tough angle that beat Luongo high and to the shortside.

Havlat capped the scoring at the 8:10 mark of the third when he carried the puck in on the right wing, flew by defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, and wristed it through Luongo's five-hole.
