NHL Game Summary - New Jersey at Colorado

(Sunday, November 30th)

Final Score: New Jersey 1, Colorado 1

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - David Aebischer stopped 27 shots to help the Colorado Avalanche earn a 1-1 tie with the New Jersey Devils at the Pepsi Center.

Martin Brodeur was equally impressive for the Devils, denying 25 shots. Erik Rasmussen scored the only goal of the game for New Jersey, which rebounded after having its 13-game unbeaten streak snapped on Friday in Dallas.

Milan Hejduk scored for the Avalanche, who finished an impressive 9-3-2-1 in the month of November. Colorado came through the month with a total of 21 points despite playing 15 games in 30 days.

Hejduk scored the game's first goal with 4:29 left in the second period when Alex Tanguay spotted the sniper streaking down the right side. Hejduk then re-directed the cross-ice pass over Brodeur's glove for his 14th goal of the season.

New Jersey, though, did not trail for long, as it received an offensive contribution from an unlikely source. Rasmussen notched his first tally of the season when he powered the puck towards the net from the slot. The fluttering disc found its way through Aebischer just 1:13 after Hejduk's tally, evening the score at 1-1.

Colorado dominated the early portion of the third period, but Brodeur was up to the task and kept the game knotted. The Avalanche had five of the first six shots in the stanza, including several quality chances from in close.

New Jersey then turned the tide at the midway point of the period, applying some pressure of its own only to achieve the same result. The Devils were then forced to kill a power play late in the period in order to send the game into the extra session.

The Devils' Sergei Brylin had the first quality chance to score in overtime, sending a wrist shot off the right post less than a minute in. Jeff Friesen used his speed to create another solid chance for the Devils with just over a minute to play, but his backhand attempt from the right side was denied by Aebischer and the game ended without a winner.
