NHL Game Summary - Colorado at Edmonton

(Friday, November 28nd)

Final Score: Colorado 4, Edmonton 1

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Joe Sakic posted a goal and two assists, as the Colorado Avalanche downed the Edmonton Oilers, 4-1, at Rexall Place.

Teemu Selanne added a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who have won two straight and five of their last seven games. Dan Hinote and Martin Skoula also scored and David Aebischer made 40 saves for Colorado.

Marc-Andre Bergeron scored the lone goal for the Oilers, who are winless in their last four games (0-3-1). Ty Conklin stopped 23-of-27 shots for Edmonton.

After a scoreless first period, Sakic gave Colorado a 1-0 lead just 29 seconds into the second stanza. He jammed at a loose puck in the crease and finally slipped a backhand across the goal line.

Selanne's power-play goal made it 2-0 at 11:03 of the second period. Sakic fired a pass towards Selanne and he deflected the puck between Conklin's pads.

Hinote's shorthanded tally pushed the Avs' edge to 3-0 at 8:44 of the third period. Rob Blake intercepted a pass in the Colorado zone and charged the other way. He gained the Oilers' zone and fought off a check along the right boards before sliding a pass into the slot. Hinote skated on to the puck and wristed a shot past Conklin.

The Oilers came back 51 seconds later with a power-play goal from Bergeron. Shawn Horcoff won the faceoff back to Bergeron, who blasted a one-timer past a surprised Aebischer.

Colorado restored the three-goal lead on an odd goal by Skoula with 7:01 remaining. Skoula charged down the slot with the puck and was hooked by an Edmonton defenseman, causing a delayed penalty to be called. However, Skoula stayed with the play and tipped the puck at the top of the crease just before Conklin could reach clear the disc. The puck went straight in the air, hit off the back of Conklin's neck and fell into the net.
