San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Nils Ekman and Christian Ehrhof each scored a second-period goal to snap a tie and lead San Jose to a 3-2 win over Chicago at HP Pavilion.
Niko Dimitrakos also scored for the Sharks, who won their third straight and are unbeaten in their last five (3-0-2). Vesa Toskala registered 23 saves.
Nathan Dempsey and Scott Nichol both scored for the Blackhawks, who remain winless in their last nine (0-5-1-3). They last went nine games without a win February 17-March 7, 2003.
San Jose scored twice in the second period to snap a 1-1 tie. Ekman scored from just outside the left goal post off a pass by Alyn McCauley from behind the net with 4:17 left in the second to put the Sharks ahead 3-1.
Ehrhoff then notched the first of his career with 1:42 to go. He beat Michael Leighton on a wrister from just inside the right faceoff circle.
Leighton stopped 19 shots.
Chicago pulled within 3-2 on a tip-in goal by Nichol with 2:49 left in the third. Tuomo Ruutu, stationed on the left wing, fired a shot through the crease, which Nichol deflected into the net.
The Sharks killed off a Chicago power play, including a 6-on-4 skaters advantage, down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Dimitrakos' second goal of the season put the Sharks ahead 1-0 just 80 seconds into the second period.
Chicago responded 44 seconds later on a goal by Dempsey to force a 1-1 tie. He converted a short rebound off a shot by Brett McLean.
The Blackhawks fell to 3-7-3-1 away from home this season...Chicago lost for the first time in five trips to San Jose (1-1-3)...The Sharks improved to 3-1-3 in the last seven meetings.
