St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Pavol Demitra's goal midway through the third period lifted the St.Louis Blues to a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars at the Savvis Center, snapping a two game losing streak.
The goal was the 200th of Demitra's career. Scott Mellanby assisted on the goal 9:52 into the final stanza. The assist was only the second of the season for Mellanby.
Chris Osgood stopped 21 saves for the Blues (12-5-0-1), who were 0-5-2 in their previous seven games.
Osgood made the save of the night when he stopped Keith Tkachuk on a penalty shot. Tkachuk was trying to do a wrap around behind the net when he was taken down and a hooking penalty was called.
On the shot Osgood was falling on his backside and stuck out his glove to preserve the save.
Marty Turco made 22 saves for the Stars (8-10-3-0), who were looking to win their second in a row, a night after snapping a seven game losing streak.
Dallas' Bill Guerin scored the game's first goal 1:10 into the second period on a redirected 15-foot shot that passed a sprawling Osgood. Jason Arnott has the assist. It was his 13th of the season.
Tkachuk tallied the equalizer 10:38 into the second period off a 26-foot snap shot that slipped past Turco. Demitra had the assist.
Demitra caused the Stars to turn the puck over in their defensive end and from there he found a streaking Tkachuk in the slot who finished the goal. The assist was Demitra's 13 of the year.
Demitra now has 280 assist for 480 points in 502 career games...Prior to the game the last unsuccessful penalty shot for the Stars was November 6, 2003 against Vancouver.
