NHL Game Summary - Boston at Philadelphia

(Saturday, November 22nd)

Final Score: Philadelphia 3, Boston 2

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Mark Recchi scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period to lift Philadelphia over Boston, 3-2, as the top-two teams in the Eastern Conference battled at the Wachovia Center.

Justin Williams and Simon Gagne also lit the lamp for the Flyers, who extended their unbeaten streak to nine games (8-0-1) and have yet to lose on home ice this season (9-0-2).

Brian Rolston found the back of the net twice for the Bruins, who failed to post a point for the first time in their last 12 games (7-1-1-3). Boston is now one point behind Philadelphia in the conference standings.

While on the power play, Recchi recorded his ninth goal of the season at 17:45 to break a 2-2 tie and the Philadelphia defense was able to hold on. Tony Amonte sent a perfect pass to Recchi, who tapped it into the net from the top of the left crease.

Boston only tallied two shots in a scoreless third period.

The Flyers opened the scoring with two goals in the first period. At 6:24, Williams got Philadelphia on the board with his fifth goal of the season. John LeClair carried the puck into the zone and fed a pass in the slot to Williams, who quickly beat Andrew Raycroft stickside.

Gagne then increased the Philadelphia edge to 2-0 with his sixth goal of the campaign at the 9:37 mark. Gagne skated down the right wing without much pressure and scored from the top of the crease.

But the Bruins battled back and tied the game with two quick second-period goals by Rolston. Just 1:05 in, Rolston took advantage of a power play with a hard, low slap shot from just inside the blue line that beat Jeff Hackett.

Then just 32 seconds later, Rolston tallied his 10th goal of the season to draw Boston even.

Hackett only needed to make 11 saves for the Flyers, while Raycroft turned aside 23 shots in the defeat.
