Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Shawn McEachern scored twice to lead Atlanta to a 6-3 win over Florida at the Office Depot Center.
Ilya Kovalchuk contributed a goal and two assists, while J.P. Vigier added a goal and assist for the Thrashers, who delivered four special-teams goals to earn their third straight win. Andy Sutton and Ronald Petrovicky also scored in the victory.
Stephen Weiss finished with a goal and an assist for the Panthers, who suffered their third straight loss. Olli Jokinen and Valeri Bure added goals in defeat.
Frantisek Kaberle registered three assists and Pasi Nurminen stopped 21 shots for Atlanta, which set a franchise record with two shorthanded goals in the second period.
Sutton posted one of them, his first of the season, with four seconds remaining to snap a 3-3 tie. He beat Florida goaltender Roberto Luongo with a one-timer from the left circle.
The Thrashers pushed their lead to 5-3 on a power-play tally by McEachern 8:55 into the third. Kaberle gathered the rebound of a shot by Kovalchuk and fed a pass to McEachern, who converted from near the right post.
Petrovicky capped the scoring with an empty-net goal with 19 seconds remaining.
McEachern's first goal, 5:28 into the first period, put the Thrashers ahead 1-0. He carried the puck into the right faceoff circle and beat Luongo with a wrist shot.
Luongo finished with 24 saves.
Florida forged a 1-1 tie 3:52 later. Jokinen, stationed in the left corner, backhanded the puck toward the front of the net. Ivan Majesky, an Atlanta defenseman, tipped the puck past Nurminen.
A power-play goal with 4:35 to go in the period gave the Thrashers a 2-1 lead. Kovalchuk fired a shot from above the left faceoff circle that deflected into the net.
Bure forged a 2-2 tie for the Panthers at 8:25 of the second period. Weiss and Mike Van Ryn set up the score.
Vigier's shorthanded goal with 4:48 left in the period staked Atlanta to a 3-2 lead. He converted on a breakaway after Bure broke his stick on an attempted shot from the point at the other end.
The Panthers pulled even, 3-3, on a power-play goal by Weiss 38 seconds later. He carried the puck through the right circle and pushed it toward the net. Majesky then deflected the puck into the net.
Serge Aubin and Randy Robitaille each notched an assist for the Thrashers, who improved to 5-5-1-1 on the road...Florida fell to 2-4 since general manager Rick Dudley replaced Mike Keenan behind the bench on November 9...Atlanta has won four of the last six meetings in the series...McEachern has 16 goals in 37 career games against Florida.
