NHL Game Summary - St. Louis at Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Brian Savage scored twice, including the game winner with 1:45 remaining in the third period, to lead Phoenix to a 5-4 win over St. Louis at America West Arena.

Shane Doan also scored twice and finished with three points for the Coyotes, who are unbeaten in their last four (2-0-2). Jeff Taffe also scored and Daymond Langkow contributed three assists.

Dallas Drake, Ryan Johnson, Chris Pronger and Scott Mellanby scored for the Blues, who squandered a two-goal lead in the second period and suffered their second straight loss. Doug Weight registered three assists in his return after a four- game suspension, and Chris Osgood stopped 25 shots.

Sean Burke turned away 14 of 15 shots in the third period and finished with 22 saves for Phoenix, which scored three goals in the second to go ahead 4-3.

Trailing 3-1, Taffe got his first of the season with 6:51 left in the period to start the flurry. Doan then scored with 3:43 left in the second to forge a 3-3 tie and his second goal of the game, with 54 seconds remaining in the middle period, came off a pass from Langkow.

Mellanby's power play goal, 3:20 into the third period, forged a 4-4 tie for the Blues. A tripping call on Daniel Cleary gave them a man-advantage.

Savage's rebound goal, off a shot by Doan from the left faceoff circle, gave Phoenix a 5-4 lead with 1:45 left in the third period.

Phoenix took a 1-0 lead 51 seconds into the game on Savage's third goal of the season. Cale Hulse and Paul Mara set up the score.

Drake's third goal of the season at 11:26 of the first forged a 1-1 tie for the Blues.

St. Louis scored two straight goals to open the second period. Johnson notched a shorthanded tally at 4:34, then Chris Pronger converted on the power play 3:56 later to put the team ahead 3-1.

Game Notes

Doan, who reached 300 career points, has posted 16 of his 17 points this season when the Coyotes are behind or tied...Phoenix's Keith Tkachuk served the final game of his three-game suspension for cross-checking San Jose's Rob Daviso...St. Louis' Pavol Demitra earned his 200th career point...Phoenix went 0-for-3 on the power play, while St. Louis converted twice in four tries with the extra skater.
