NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Colorado

(Tuesday, November 18th)

Final Score: Colorado 2, Anaheim 1 (OT)

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Teemu Selanne scored with 1:49 remaining in overtime as the Colorado Avalanche edged the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, 2-1, at the Pepsi Center.

Adam Foote also scored for Colorado, which has won five of its last six and has registered at least a point in each of the last eight games.

Avalanche netminder David Aebischer posted 24 saves in the victory.

Vaclav Prospal tallied the lone goal for the Mighty Ducks, who saw their three-game winning streak snapped. Despite the loss, Anaheim still earned a point for the sixth straight game (3-0-0-3). Jean-Sebastien Giguere turned aside 38 of the 40 shots he faced for the Ducks.

"I thought Aebischer made a lot of great saves tonight, but Giguere was just outstanding," said Anaheim head coach Mike Babcock.

Anaheim tied the game 86 seconds after Colorado had taken a 1-0 lead late in the third period to send the contest in the extra session.

Late in the overtime period, Rob Blake took control near the right circle, spotted an open Selanne on the other side and fed a cross-ice pass. Selanne then drilled his fifth goal of the season past a sprawling Giguere for the game-winner.

The contest was scoreless through the first two periods before an exciting third period saw both teams get on the board.

Finally, Foote scored the game's first goal when he picked up the puck near the blue line and released a wrister that beat a screened Giguere at 14:21.

"If (Giguere) saw it, he would have saved it," said Foote of the traffic that helped his goal go through.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Prospal knotted the contest 1:26 after Foote's tally. Petr Sykora stole the puck from Avs defenseman Karlis Skrastins behind the net. He quickly spotted Prospal all alone in front and slid a nifty pass to the goal mouth, where Prospal easily put home his fourth goal of the campaign.
