NHL Game Summary - Detroit at Dallas

(Wednesday, November 12th)

Final Score: Detroit 6, Dallas 2

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Steve Yzerman and Pavel Datsyuk each scored two goals to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 6-2 victory over the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center.

Steve Thomas and Mathieu Schneider also scored for the Red Wings, who have won three of their last four games. Dominik Hasek made 16 saves in the victory.

Brenden Morrow posted a goal and an assist for the Stars, who have dropped four straight games for the first time since dropping four in a row from March 11-17, 1996. Bill Guerin added a goal in the loss, while Marty Turco stopped 21-of-27 shots.

The Red Wings held a 2-0 lead after one period of play on a pair of goals by Yzerman.

Detroit's captain put his team ahead 1-0 just 1:07 into the contest. Jiri Fischer slapped a shot from the right point and the puck deflected off the stick of Stars defenseman Trevor Daley before hitting off Yzerman's knee and heading into the net.

Yzerman's eighth goal of the year came on the power play with 51 seconds left in the opening period. Nicklas Lidstrom slid the puck over to Yzerman, who snapped a wrister from the left circle to beat Turco.

Guerin posted a power-play goal 56 seconds into the second period to make it a 2-1 game. Morrow screened Hasek in front and Guerin beat the goaltender with a wrist shot from the high slot.

Thomas' first goal of the year restored the Red Wings' two-goal lead at 8:50 of the second period. Darryl Bootland held the puck along the left boards and passed to a streaking Thomas, who scored on a backhander from the right side of the crease.

Dallas cut the lead to 3-2 on Morrow's goal less than three minutes later. Stu Barnes was stopped in front by Hasek, but Morrow was at the right side of the crease to knock in the rebound.

Detroit sealed the game with two goals early in the third period. Schneider beat Turco with a slap shot from the left circle for a shorthanded goal just 59 seconds into the final frame and Datsyuk scored at the 5:46 mark to make it 5-2.

Datsyuk scored again with just 37 seconds left in the game on a nice move on a breakaway.
