NHL Game Summary - Vancouver at Minnesota

(Tuesday, November 11th)

Final Score: Minnesota 1, Vancouver 0

St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Dwayne Roloson made 29 saves for his second shutout of the season and Sergei Zholtok scored the only goal of the contest late in the third period, as the Minnesota Wild earned a 1-0 victory over the Vancouver Canucks at Xcel Energy Center.

The Wild gained a split of the home-and-home series, having dropped a 4-3 decision on Saturday in Vancouver. Minnesota improved to 5-1-1 in its last seven.

"We had to push all night," said Wild head coach Jacques Lemaire. "The guys didn't seem to have their legs tonight, but we kept battling. Every team goes through this at one time or another. But this was a huge win against a division opponent."

Vancouver, which was shut out for the first time this season, lost for only the second time in its last 12 games (8-2-2). The Canucks entered the contest with a league-high 53 goals this season and the lowest total they had scored in a game before Tuesday was two.

Dan Cloutier made 23 saves in defeat.

Roloson stopped eight shots in the first period and 12 in the second. He then turned aside nine in the third to preserve his 13th career shutout and second in as many starts.

Last Friday against Calgary, Roloson made 34 saves in a 3-0 victory. He then took over for an ineffective Manny Fernandez after the first period on Saturday against the Canucks and stopped 18-of-19 shots.

Cloutier, who made 26 saves in Saturday's 4-3 victory, matched Roloson through two periods on Tuesday, stopping all 15 shots he faced.

The Wild finally scored with 5:09 left in the third. Alexandre Daigle swept in from the left wing and sent a pass to the right circle for Richard Park, who threw the puck in front of the net. Zholtok was cutting across the top of the crease and had a shot stopped by Cloutier. Zholtok stayed with the puck at the right side of the crease and banked it off the netminder for his first goal of the season.

"I'm just trying to get my game back," said Zholtok, who has played just nine games this season. "But it's going to take awhile to get my offense back to where it should be. I was very focused tonight, especially after last game. It was nice to get that goal."

The Canucks could not generate any quality scoring chances with Cloutier pulled in the closing minute.

"They got the bounce in the game," said Canucks head coach Marc Crawford. "Guy shoots from behind the net, hits our goalie, and goes in. And if we got the bounce, probably we win the game one to nothing."
