Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - David Vyborny notched his first career hat trick and Marc Denis stopped 12 shots to lead Columbus to a 4-2 win over Atlanta at Nationwide Arena.
Geoff Sanderson also scored for the Blue Jackets, who snapped a seven-game losing streak.
Ronald Petrovicky and Patrik Stefan both scored for the Thrashers, who have one win in their last five games (1-3-1).
The Blue Jackets, who tied a franchise record by allowing a team-low 14 shots on goal, went ahead 2-0 on goals 56 seconds apart midway through the first period.
Vyborny opened the scoring at 11:37 on a short backhand shot. At 12:33, Sanderson sent a slapshot past Byron Dafoe from the left circle. Dafoe stopped 19 shots.
Petrovicky's third goal, at 13:18 of the first from Karl Stewart, got Atlanta within 2-1.
Vyborny tipped in a shot by Luke Richardson from the left point 2:47 into the second period to push the Columbus edge to 3-1.
The Thrashers got within 3-2 on the power play 8:05 into the third, when Stefan beat Denis with a low shot from the left circle.
Vyborny posted the hat trick when he delivered a shorthanded goal into an empty net with 54.5 seconds remaining in the game.
Game Notes
Andrew Cassels and Denis both registered an assist for the Blue Jackets, who snapped a three-game losing streak in the series...Dafoe made seven saves in the first period, 10 in the second, and only three in the third for Atlanta, which went 1-for-5 on the power play...Thrashers center Serge Aubin posted his third assist in the last three games...Columbus went 0-for-6 with the extra skater.
