NHL Game Summary - Los Angeles at Florida

(Wednesday, November 5th)

Final Score: Los Angeles 3, Florida 2

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Jonathan Sim's goal at the 11:29 mark of the second period proved to be the game-winner, as the Kings got out to a three- goal lead and held on for a 3-2 win over the Panthers at the Office Depot Center.

Derek Armstrong and Trent Klatt also tallied for the Kings while Roman Cechmanek stopped 24-of-26 shots for Los Angeles, which won its third straight road game.

The Kings earned their first-ever road victory against the Panthers in eight tries.

Roberto Luongo stopped 32 shots on net and Nathan Horton and Mike Van Ryn scored for the Panthers, who lost for the fourth consecutive time at home.

In the second, Sim stole the puck away from Mikael Samuelsson along the right corner boards and carried the puck to the side of the net along Luongo's glove side. From the goal line extended, he popped a wrister just under the crossbar for the goal and the 3-0 lead.

With just over two minutes to go in the second, Horton received a pass from Niklas Hagman at the top of the left circle and carried the puck across the slot from left to right. Horton was tripped up at the bottom of right circle, but swiped at the puck while on his stomach and beat Cechmanek five-hole to get Florida on the board.

At the 8:23 mark of the third, Van Ryn took a pass at the right point from Valeri Bure, drew the puck to the high slot and hesitated. He then let loose a slapshot that got by Cechmanek to cut the Kings' lead to one.

But Florida wasn't able to get any more good scoring chances as the Panthers totaled just six shots in the stanza.

LA got on the board first on a goal by Armstrong. Luc Robitaille passed from the right side boards into the slot, where Armstrong had swept in from the left side of the ice. He one-timed it past a sprawling Luongo for the goal at 13:26 of the first period.

The Kings posted their second power-play tally of the evening. With Ivan Novoseltsev in the box for hooking, Jaroslav Modry found Lubomir Visnovsky at the center point from the left boards, and he ripped a slapshot on net. Klatt was camped out in front and deflected the puck past Luongo for the two-goal lead.

Game Notes
