NHL Game Summary - Washington at Montreal

Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Yanic Perreault posted two goals and an assist and Donald Audette added a goal and two assists, as the Montreal Canadiens pounded the Washington Capitals, 5-1, in their home-opener at the Bell Centre.
Michael Ryder chipped in a pair of assists for the Canadiens, who have won two straight after a season-opening loss at Ottawa. Jose Theodore turned aside 16 shots in the victory.
Robert Lang scored for the Capitals, who are winless in three straight (0-2-1) after beginning the campaign with a home win over the Islanders. Sebastien Charpentier made 25 saves in the setback.
The Canadiens grabbed a 1-0 lead six minutes into the first period. Joe Juneau backhanded a pass into the right circle and Andreas Dackell was able to wrist the puck just underneath the crossbar.
Perreault's first goal of the year gave Montreal a 2-0 edge with 3:55 left in the opening stanza. The power-play tally came when Perreault beat Charpentier with a one-timer from the slot.
Lang put the Capitals on the board just 40 seconds later when he scored from just outside the crease.
Perreault scored for the second time to give the Habs a 3-1 lead just 19 seconds into the second period. This time he wristed a shot from the right circle over Charpentier's glove.
Stephane Quintal scored for Montreal at the 9:15 mark of the second. He faked a slapshot from the right circle and tried to send a pass in front for Jan Bulis. However, the puck hit off a Washington defenseman and deflected into the net.
Audette gave the Canadiens a four-goal cushion with 5:07 left in the middle stanza. Perreault carried the puck into the zone and dished off to Audette, who beat Charpentier between the pads with a wrister from the left circle.
The game was the first of a six-game homestand, the longest of the season for Montreal...The Canadiens are 53-19-15 all-time in home-openers...Washington scored six goals in its season-opening win over the Islanders, but has totaled just six goals in the three games since...Montreal is 5-2-1 in its last eight meetings with the Capitals...Washington went 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Habs converted on 1-of-4 chances with the man advantage.
