NHL Game Summary - Boston at Florida
(Saturday, October 11th)
Final Score: Boston 1, Florida 1
Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Olli Jokinen scored the sole goal of the third period to help Florida skate to a 1-1 tie with Boston at the Office Depot Center.
Roberto Luongo made 32 saves for the Panthers (1-0-1-0), who were looking to start the season at 2-0 for the first time since the 1999-2000 campaign.
Andrew Raycroft stopped 34 shots for the Bruins, who have yet to win in three tries this season (0-1-2-0). The last time that Boston was winless in its first three games was the 1999-2000 season, when it wasn't victorious until its 10th game of the season.
The Bruins never got it going in the extra period, failing to tally a shot on net. The Panthers didn't produce much more excitement in the overtime with the exception of a missed breakaway by Kristian Huselius.
After a scoreless first period, in which Florida outshot Boston 12-11, Sergei Samsonov opened the scoring only 32 seconds into the second stanza. Joe Thornton fired a shot from the boards and Samsonov was able to redirect the puck past Luongo for his first goal of the season.
Jokinen posted the equalizer 3:17 into the third when he took a drop pass from Viktor Kozlov, used a screen in front of the net and one-timed the puck over Raycroft's glove.
Florida winger Valeri Bure missed the game with a groin injury...Boston is 6-1-2 in the last nine meetings between the two teams.
