NHL Game Summary - Tampa Bay at Detroit

(Wednesday, November 30th)

Final Score: Detroit 4, Tampa Bay 2

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Tomas Holmstrom scored the winner in the third period as the Detroit Red Wings took a 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Pavel Datsyuk and Jonathan Ericsson each had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings, who have won six straight. Darren Helm scored the other goal while Jimmy Howard stopped 21 shots in the win.

"Staying composed and not getting rattled when things go our way is a big part of this game," said Howard. "Sticking to the game plan is what we want to do every night."

Martin St. Louis and Steven Stamkos each had a goal for the Lightning, who have dropped four of six and six of nine. Dwayne Roloson allowed all four goals on 35 shots.

"That's a talented hockey club over there," said Roloson. "They're well coached and every player buys into the program. They're hard to beat."

With the score tied in the third, Datsyuk went on a breakaway and was hooked by Eric Brewer, giving Detroit a power-play at the 4:13 mark of the frame.

It took just nine second for them to take advantage as all five players touched the puck with Nicklas Lidstrom's one-timer from the inside left circle being redirected into the net by Holmstrom at the right side.

Nearly nine minutes later, Jakub Kindl brought the puck into the Tampa end down the left wing and sent a little pass over to Helm, who snapped a shot into the net.

Howard helped preserve the two-goal lead when he made a beautiful glove save on a Matt Gilroy breakaway with close to four minutes to play.

The first goal of the game went to Detroit as Datsyuk one-timed a shot from the slot off a backhand pass from Todd Bertuzzi down low at the 4:58 mark of the first.

Just past the 11-minute mark of the first, the Red Wings made it a 2-0 game. Valtteri Filppula had the puck along the deep right boards and fired a pass that hit off the stick of a Tampa player. However, it found its way to Ericsson, who wristed it from the slot for his first goal of the year.

Tampa got one back halfway through the second on the power play when St. Louis' one-timer from the slot made its way past Howard.

In the closing moments of the middle stanza, the Lightning tied the game as Gilroy sent a hard pass from the top of the right circle to the backdoor at the left side where Stamkos one-timed it home with 14 seconds left.
